In Kazakhstan, a candidate who failed a language exam was removed from presidential elections
The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan refused to nominate public figure Zhumatai Aliyev as a presidential candidate, who could not pass the exam on proficiency in the state Kazakh language, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Kazakh publication Tengrinews reported this on May 2.
“On May 2, 2019, a meeting of the linguistic commission was held at the Central Election Commission to establish Zhumatai Aliyev’s fluency in the state language. Based on the results of the exam, the linguistic commission decided that the presidential candidate does not speak the state language fluently,” CEC member Lyazzat Suleimen read out the draft resolution at the meeting.
She noted that, according to the second paragraph of the resolution, the Central Election Commission denies Aliyev registration as a presidential candidate.
A member of the linguistic commission, Adil Akhmetov, said that Zhumatai Aliyev made 19 errors in punctuation and style in his written assignment.
Zhumatai Aliyev was nominated by the public association on April 26, 2019. Over the years, he worked in the Presidential Administration, was the rector of the Central Asian University, deputy chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, and from 2012 to 2016 - a deputy of the Mazhilis of the XNUMXth convocation.
