The Olympics on sycophancy started in Kazakhstan
The central streets of five cities in Kazakhstan will be named in honor of the country's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Messages about the renamings have been going on all day today from different parts of this country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Deputies of the maslikhat (local representative body) made the corresponding decision unanimously. Thus, the central street of Pavlodar will now be called Nazarbayev Avenue,” reports the Kazinform agency.
The initiative was also taken up by representatives of the Ust-Kamenogorsk public council. “One of the main streets of the regional center, Independence Avenue, may be renamed into Nursultan Nazarbayev Avenue,” reports the Khabar 24 TV channel. The city maslikhat commission unanimously supported this proposal, and now it will be submitted to an extraordinary session of this representative body.
In Petropavlovsk, deputies of the city assembly unanimously voted to name one of the central streets, Mira Street, after Nazarbayev. “There is a long-standing tradition of giving cities, important objects, and streets the names of famous personalities who made a great contribution to the history of the country. We need to support the idea of naming one of the streets of our city after the first president. Our descendants must remember where the history of independent Kazakhstan began,” Kazinform quotes Sergei Khudyakov, director of the North Kazakhstan branch of the Kazakhstan Center for Modernization and Development of Housing and Public Utilities JSC.
Atyrau also decided to rename the central avenue in honor of the country's first president. According to Kazinform, this proposal was unanimously supported in the maslikhat. Earlier it became known that deputies of the maslikhat of one of the largest Kazakh cities, Shymkent, decided to rename the central avenue in honor of Nazarbayev.
The proposal to rename the country's capital and the central streets of the cities of the regional centers of the republic in honor of Nazarbayev was made earlier on Wednesday by the new President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. On the same day, parliament adopted a bill to rename Astana, and the city’s maslikhat supported this decision.
