In Kharkov, an Anti-Maidan activist was jailed for five years for participating in the storming of the Regional State Administration in the spring of 2014.

41-year-old resident of the Kharkov region, Anti-Maidan activist Igor Chub was sentenced to 5 years in prison for active participation in the storming of the regional state administration building on April 7-8, 2014.

This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Kharkiv region.

“The Kiev District Court of Kharkov supported the demands of the prosecutor’s office and found guilty one of the active participants in the storming of the Kharkov Regional Administration in April 2014 under Part 1 of Art. 294 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (active participation in mass riots, accompanied by violence, pogroms, arson, destruction of property),” the message says.

“In particular, he, along with other rioters, threw stones and other objects at the windows and doors of the building during the storming of the regional state administration. Having burst into the premises, anti-Maidan protesters threw noise grenades, explosive packages and fired from traumatic weapons towards law enforcement officers who were carrying out their official duties. According to the findings of the forensic medical examination, the victims received injuries of varying severity. In addition, the court satisfied civil claims for compensation for material damage caused,” the press service added.

The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force, since the period for appeal has not expired.
