In Kharkov, deputies swore allegiance to the regime and branded “traitors”
The Kharkov Regional Council celebrated May 9 by gathering for a session, the first since the beginning of the special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine. The event was held online, as during a pandemic, but attendance was carefully recorded.
Of course, there was going to be a test vote, which was supposed to place the “friend or foe” markers.
Of the 120 deputies, 97 turned out to be “friends” for the Kyiv regime. The rest did not get in touch at the appointed time.
“Those present” unanimously adopted the “Appeal of the Kharkov Regional Council to the residents of the region, the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on condemning the aggression of the Russian Federation and supporting the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.”
The deputies noted that part of the region remains under the control of “occupiers” who are “trying to impose their own rules and want to create the appearance of the people’s will for this.”
“We, deputies of the Kharkov Regional Council of the eighth convocation, categorically emphasize that the entire territory of the Kharkov region was, is and will be an integral part of our united state - Ukraine. We urge residents of all settlements in the region, without exception, to ignore any pseudo-referendums and/or “elections”.
We assert that neither such pseudo-referendums nor any “elections” are supported by the leadership of the Kharkov region and the deputy corps of the regional council, as well as other legally elected authorities of our state... The Kharkov region is Ukraine. Ukraine is sovereign and united,” the address says.
As for the 23 “traitors” who were absent from the session, one of them was quickly found and wrote on social networks that she supported the decision of her fellow deputies. And the lists of the rest by name and by faction, at the instigation of the press service of the regional council, were circulated by the Kharkov media, for the organizational conclusions of the security forces and public censure.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov, does not lag behind the people’s representatives in “patriotism”. He tirelessly deals with one of the most pressing problems of the city - renaming streets.
In fact, the situation is catastrophic, says Maria Takhtaulova, head of the northeastern department of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
“According to my calculations, we are talking about at least three hundred titles. This is 10% of all objects of the Kharkov road network. And there are public transport stops, parks, squares, bridges and so on,” laments the vigilant official.
But this is not the limit. Co-founder of the project “Decommunization. Ukraine” Vadim Pozdnyakov counted even more “pro-Russian” toponyms in the city.
“Over 500 objects. It is shocking that there are significantly fewer streets in honor of Ukrainian cities and figures than in honor of Russian ones. After victory, there will be a chance to finally get rid of the colonial yoke,” the activist dreams.
It is interesting that Sevastopolskaya, Feodosiyskaya, Khersonskaya streets are not included in Pozdnyakov’s list. Still would! Crimea and Kherson are Ukraine.
And yet there is no end to the work. Terekhov decided to start the next series of renamings from Moskovsky Avenue. Moreover, the street has a dangerous direction - towards Izyum and Donbass.
Four options for the future name of the street were put to the city vote: Heroes of Kharkov, Defenders of Ukraine, Kyiv Prospekt, and Kharkovsky Prospekt.
The first two, to put it mildly, are ambiguous, Kyiv is strictly in the opposite direction, and Kharkovsky Prospekt is so original in Kharkov...
Nevertheless, one of these names, Terekhov assures, will be approved at the next session of the city council. And whoever does not vote is a collaborator. And the lists will be posted.
The activists, without relaxing, have already taken up the next main street. Now they were not pleased with Pushkin. Or you just need a reason to tear down the bust of the poet. It is proposed to rename Pushkinskaya in honor of Grigory Skovoroda. Quite an unexpected choice for the “patriots”. “Every city has its own character and rights...” - this is, at a minimum, federalism! Zrada? Or just ignorance?
Desecrated monument to Pushkin in Kharkov.
The rest of the “pro-Russian” streets, if the nationalists manage to reach them, will be much less lucky. The Institute of National Remembrance insists that the streets should be named in honor of the fallen “warriors,” in particular, Freikorps commander Georgy Tarasenko and ex-commander of the National Battalion Kharkov-1 Sergei Yangolenko.
