The police took enhanced security measures. Since the morning, the Universitet and Gosprom, Sovetskaya and Historical Museum metro stations have been blocked. Entry into the central part of the city was prohibited; movement was only possible on foot.
Columns of protesters - supporters of the referendum, pro-Russian movements, as well as communists - marched through the city center. Policemen guarded the procession of the column along the entire route.
Most people gathered on the square. Freedom at the end point of the procession. According to various estimates, from 2,5 to 3,5 thousand people took part in the rally. From the stage there were calls for unification with Donbass activists and in support of federalization and the Russian language.
Gradually the rally moved towards the regional state administration. People chanted “Avakov to the bunk!”, “Referendum!”, “Donbass, we are with you!” In front of the building there was a cordon of police in full uniform - with shields and helmets. No one attempted to storm the building. But the protesters attempted to demonstratively burn the Ukrainian flag. After the flag failed to catch fire, it was thrown into the trash. At the same time, a conflict arose with Radio Liberty correspondents who were filming what was happening.
At this time, another action took place outside the walls of the regional state administration: six people went on a hunger strike in support of the arrested and detained pro-Russian activists.
Let us recall, as Navigator reported, yesterday Kharkov police detained two coordinators of the “South-East” movement, Yuri Apukhtin and Spartak Golovachev. On April 20, one of the leaders of the protest movement in Kharkov, Konstantin Dolgov, was detained.
