According to local media, at first the protest began quite peacefully: people were even allowed into the hall where deputies planned to consider the budget. They demanded a change in the management of Kharkov utility companies and a transparent review of the city budget. Young people with green bands on their arms raised certain questions. But gradually the situation became tense.
According to the IT Sector movement, during a rally near the City Council, a smoke bomb was thrown into the crowd. It is not yet known what exactly provoked the clashes.
"Kharkiv. Activists have prepared a trash bin for deputies who have not fulfilled their obligations to citizens. Activists caught and beat the “titushka,” the movement reports.
Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, who arrived in the city today for a meeting with security forces, also came out to the protesters. He made a short speech.
According to journalist Slava Mavrichev, activists tried to throw City Council deputy from the Party of Regions Viktor Kitanin into a trash can.
The police used tear gas against the protesters and surrounded the deputy. “They put me in a car and drove away. There is an abrasion under the left eye. Finally, he said that he felt fine,” Mavrichev wrote on his Facebook page.
