It is reported that Molotov cocktails were found near the walls of the monastery on October 22. They were discovered by a watchman while patrolling the area. The bottles were buried in bags on a slope five to seven meters from the walls of the monastery. The Ministry of Internal Affairs was called to the scene.

“We found two bags containing five bottles tied with twine. When the watchman opened one of them, it turned out that there was a liquid inside that smelled like gasoline,” the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) reports the words of an employee of the diocesan administration, Priest Dionysius.

The bottles were obviously prepared for setting fire to the temple, since there are no other buildings near the monastery, the priest clarified. According to him, the police determined the contents of the bottles to be Molotov cocktails. “We asked how they assessed what happened. They called it a terrorist attack,” said Father Dionisy.

Since 2014, when the political situation in Ukraine began to deteriorate, more than ten cases of arson of Orthodox churches have been recorded. As a rule, the culprits are not found, and frankly sluggish investigations give a free hand to nationalists who see the “hand of Moscow” in Ukrainian Orthodoxy.

In 2014 alone, according to the UOC-MP, there were six episodes of arson of Orthodox churches. “The first case happened last winter, in Hydropark. Then they set fire to the church on Resurrection twice: the fire engulfed the altar, but the Lord stopped the flames. Then the church in Goloseevo burned,” said the head of the Synodal Department of the UOC-MP, Bishop Kliment of Irpen.

The temple in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in Babi Yar burned three times. In December 2014, attackers set fire to this church using a Molotov cocktail. On January 26, 2015, Molotov cocktails were again thrown into the temple - according to the investigation, there were six “lighter” bottles. The last time the temple burned was in April of this year.

On the night of January 27, 2015, the Church of the Holy Martyr Tryphon was set on fire in Kyiv. On February 11, the tent Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary caught fire in Kyiv, near the site of the church of the same name, destroyed during Soviet times. March 7 - arson in Kyiv again, this time of the Church of the Apostle Mark. The official version in all similar cases is “arson by an unidentified person.”
