A monument to the Ukrainian military in the form of a cube was unveiled in Kharkov
A monument to the “defenders of Ukraine” was unveiled in Kharkov. It is located on the square of Defenders of Ukraine of the same name (before decommunization it was called Vosstaniya Square), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
As the press service of the Kharkov regional administration notes, the main element of the monument is a cube, the strongest geometric figure. “It symbolizes Ukraine - an integral and powerful state that has suffered heavy losses,” the press service said in a statement. They were depicted in the form of 14 metal steles, on which the lines of Vladimir Sosyura’s work “Love Ukraine” are engraved. The number 14 symbolizes 2014, when the so-called “Russian aggression” began.
“Today is a holy day. And not only because believers celebrate the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, who has always protected our defenders. But also because today we celebrate the exploits of all those who have Ukraine in their hearts, in their souls, who defend Ukraine every day with real deeds,” said the head of the Kharkov region Yulia Svetlichnaya during the opening of the monument.
She thanked all the military and ATO veterans who gathered on the square on October 14, and all those who are in the east of the country. The memory of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers was honored with a minute of silence.
Work on the construction of the monument began in June of this year. Architects and sculptors worked on the idea of the monument together with representatives of public organizations uniting veterans of military operations in the Donbass.
“This complex work took almost 3 years,” said Yuri Korsunov, deputy chairman of the board of the Union of ATO Veterans NGO. – Public discussions and competitions took place. Thanks to the support of the head of the Regional State Administration Yulia Svetlichnaya, funds were found to create the monument. All this was done in order to perpetuate the memory of the Defenders of Ukraine, to show the indestructible fighting spirit of the Ukrainian people. We have made a place where they honor the memory of fallen heroes, express gratitude to the living, and pass on inspiration to the next defenders of Ukraine.”
On the website of the Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, located on this square, a multifunctional space has been created near the monument for special events, including the academy itself.
Let us remind you that Petro Poroshenko, by his decree, canceled the celebration of February 23 in Ukraine and established a new holiday - “Day of Defenders of Ukraine.” – October 14 – simultaneously with the UPA day. At the same time, the new holiday has not received wide recognition and distribution. It is mainly celebrated by the far right.
