The opening of the memorial sign was attended by Euromaidan activists, Kharkov residents and guests of the city, the publication reports. STATUS QUO. People brought a large flag of Ukraine and sang the national anthem.
According to Euromaidan activist Vladimir Chistilin, the cost of the monument is about 5,5 thousand UAH, funds for it were raised by Kharkov residents. The stone is made of red granite, its height is 1 m 15 cm, width is about 70 cm, weight is 750 kg.
The installation of the monument has not yet been coordinated with the city authorities, as it is “a very long process,” but it will begin in the near future.
As PolitNavigator reported, On September 28, participants in a pro-Ukrainian rally in Kharkov left monument to Lenin standing on Freedom Square. Chairman of the Kharkov Regional State Administration Igor Baluta issued an order to dismantle the monumentwhen this process was already underway. After thisthe main case against the radicals was closed. Kharkov mayor Gennady Kernes said that the monument will be restored and went to court, but lost the case on this issue in the lower courts. In particular, on November 19, the Kharkov Administrative Court of Appeal rejected the Kharkov City Council’s appeal in the case of suspending the order to dismantle the Lenin monument. 2On November 4, the Kharkov District Administrative Court declared the demolition of the Lenin monument illegal.
