According to the press service of the Kharkov City Council, the corresponding decision was made on March 6. Members of the commission reviewed the application of public organizations Public Guard, Euromaidan-Kharkov, Automaidan-Kharkov, Right Sector, ultras FC Metalist to hold a rally at the monument to Taras Shevchenko on March 9 from 12:00, and a procession to the square from 13:30. During the commission meeting, Deputy Kharkiv City Mayor Terekhov said that the police tried to dissuade the leaders of these organizations from holding the march due to the threat of terrorist attacks, but not all of them heard the arguments of law enforcement officers.
“We are extremely concerned about the situation that has developed in the city due to the fact that today there was another terrorist attack when a car was blown up. Therefore, we will go to court to limit the progress of this event. We want there to be peace and quiet in Kharkov, and we cannot allow new casualties and terrorist acts,” Terekhov noted.
He also assured that if the court prohibits the march, and the initiators of the action ignore this decision, the city authorities and law enforcement officers will do everything possible to keep people safe.
