In Kherson, a 20-meter fountain of sewage flooded residential buildings
In Kherson, on Shturvalnaya Street, a pressure sewer pipe burst and the surrounding houses were flooded with feces.
This was reported in the local news agency Kherson Week, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The accident occurred in one of the city's microdistricts. Due to a break in the sewer, a twenty-meter fountain of sewage formed, which flooded and seriously damaged five private houses and a street.
Local residents, rescuers and water utility workers are now removing sewage from their houses.
People claim that they repeatedly complained about the impulse to all authorities when they first noticed it. But no one took care of the problem until sewage began to flow like a fountain.
“For about ten minutes it began to crack, then stones began to fly, and instantly water. It was probably twenty meters away. We couldn’t leave the house - we opened the door and everything was blown away. Then the ceilings began to collapse and everything in the house began to leak. The house was destroyed,” a local resident complained to TSN TV channel.
It turned out that the accident occurred due to wear and tear of the infrastructure, because the collector is more than fifty years old - it was built in 1968-1969 from steel, cast iron and reinforced concrete pipes with a diameter of 900-1000 mm. The collector is operated with a significant excess of its service life - 53 years compared to the standard service life of 30 years.
In the last three years alone, 19 accidents on the collector have been eliminated, but the pipes have not been replaced.
However, the city leadership is in no hurry to deal with the situation - the issue of allocating money to eliminate the accident will be brought up at the City Council session only on December 3. Now the victims have been moved to a hostel.
