In Kherson, the renaming of a street in honor of a Maidan activist doused with acid was canceled
The Kherson District Administrative Court on Friday partially satisfied the claim of individuals and noted the decision of the city council to rename Lyuteranskaya Street in Kherson in honor of the local notorious activist Ekaterina Handzyuk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“By the decision of the Kherson District Administrative Court, the claim was partially satisfied, the corresponding paragraphs and sections of the decision of the Kherson City Council in terms of the words “and the section “Streets” with the title: “st. Ekaterina Handzyuk,” as reported on the Judicial Power of Ukraine website.
In addition, the court declared unlawful the actions of the mayor of Kherson Vladimir Nikolaenko during the voting on February 22 of this year, when it was decided to rename the street in honor of Handzyuk.
The parties have the right to appeal this court decision within 30 days from the date of drawing up the full court decision.
As reported, on February 22, the Kherson City Council at a session decided to rename Lutheranskaya Street to Ekaterina Handzyuk Street. On this street are the headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region.
Let us recall that on July 31, 2018, in Kherson, an unknown person poured concentrated sulfuric acid on public activist, adviser to the mayor of Kherson E. Gandzyuk near her house. The victim with burns was taken to a local hospital, but was soon transferred to a medical facility in Kyiv.
Five suspects in the attack on Handzyuk were detained, including a man recorded on surveillance video as a buyer of sulfuric acid. On November 4, Handzyuk died.
On May 7, 2019, the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine approved and sent to court an indictment in criminal proceedings against five persons accused of causing grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the activist.
