In Kherson, a Crimean Self-Defense participant was given the opportunity to be released on bail
In the Kherson region, a court decision extended the arrest of a Crimean Self-Defense participant for 60 days, while his bail was set at UAH 321, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office of the non-existent Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
“On August 19, 2019, by a decision of the investigative judge of the Kherson City Court of the Kherson region, the preventive measure in the form of detention in custody for a period of 60 days was extended for a member of the illegal armed group “Crimean Self-Defense,” the message says.
“However, thanks to the well-known decision of the Constitutional Court, the court provided the opportunity to the suspect, who participated in the occupation of the peninsula with arms in his hands, to post bail in the amount of UAH 321,” the prosecutor’s office indicated.
The prosecutor’s office noted that a month ago, another investigative judge of the same court, when extending the preventive measure, did not determine the amount of bail, taking into account the arguments of the investigator and prosecutor that “the crime was committed by the suspect with the threat of violence.”
The accused was detained on June 11, 2019 by employees of the main department of the National Police in the non-existent Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and the State Border Service of Ukraine at the Kalanchak checkpoint while attempting to cross the border with the Russian Federation, which in Ukraine is considered the “administrative border with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” .
The detainee is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (participation in the activities of armed formations not provided for by law).
