In the Kherson region, vandals again desecrated a famous monument
In the city of Kakhovka, Kherson region, the famous Kakhovka monument “Legendary Cart” was vandalized, ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko reported in his blog.
“Unknown people partially dismantled the sidewalk path, cut off large pieces in the area of the horse’s tail, the lintel in the hands of a Red Army soldier, and part of the base of the monument. All the cut off parts will apparently go to a scrap metal collection point,” he wrote, adding: “It’s a shame for the country.”
As PolitNavigator reported, last year the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory decided to dismantle the Tachanka as part of decommunization.
Kyiv officials, in an appeal to the Kakhovka City Council, stated that the monument was erected “with the aim of glorifying the struggle of the Red Army on the Kakhovka bridgehead during the Soviet-Ukrainian War and the establishment of Soviet power on the territory of Ukraine.”
Zhuravko then protested, insisting that the “Legendary Cart” was also used during the Great Patriotic War.”
“There were a lot of such examples when partisans and Soviet soldiers used carts with machine guns for defense or avoiding the enemy, firing back from the Maxim machine gun, which was attached to the cart itself. This is a symbol not only of the Civil War, but also of the Great Patriotic War,” the politician said, explaining the inadmissibility of demolishing the monument.
Vandals who are planning to dismantle the famous Kakhovka monument “Legendary Cart” can make good money from this idea. The monument is cast from bronze and weighs about 60 tons, which will allow you to earn at least 60 thousand dollars when cutting it.
