Almost 400 suspects were detained during the Europol operation on the Balkan route
During the operation of the EU police service (Europol), the operational center of which was in Montenegro, 382 suspects in human trafficking, drugs and weapons were detained.
Operation EMPACT, which involved about 16 thousand police officers from 28 EU member states and candidate countries, was carried out along the entire so-called “Balkan route,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Along this route, migrants from the Middle East are trying to reach the countries of the European Union from Greece through Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina. EMPACT's operations center was located in Montenegro, and the Europol operation was also supported by Interpol and other EU agencies Eurojust and Frontex.
During the operation, 74 people, 924 vehicles and 32 parcels were checked, and searches were carried out in 665 places. Of the 2 detainees, 004 are suspected of illegal movement of migrants, 998 of drug trafficking, 382 of firearms trafficking, two of human trafficking and 159 of other crimes. Police discovered 112 cases of illegal border crossings, seized 38 firearms, 71 kilograms of heroin, 2476 kilograms of marijuana, 106 marijuana plants and 304 kilograms of cocaine.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, French President Emmanuel Macron, at a meeting with “Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo” Albin Kurti, said that Paris is against providing a visa-free regime for residents of the self-proclaimed republic. The main reasons for this are organized crime, human trafficking, corruption and mass migration of Kosovo residents to the EU.
