“My husband, the famous Croatian journalist Robert Valdetz, was beaten again yesterday in the courtyard of our house in the village. He was struck from behind while he was removing shopping bags from the car. He lost consciousness for some time. Now he is in the hospital,” Aslamova said.

She points out that since February 2022, the husband has regularly received threats on Croatian social networks.

“He was accused of being a Russian spy, that his wife was a Russian spy. Typical Russophobic nonsense. But we have been together for 22 years, and the whole of Croatia knows the story of our love. On September 13 last year, after my husband took me to the airport in the evening (I was flying to Moscow), at five in the morning there was a knock on our house. My husband, half asleep, thinking that neighbors who were in some kind of trouble were knocking, opened the door, and a terrible blow to the head fell on him.

They kicked him, who had already fallen, and broke four ribs. Although the Croatian media wrote about the attack, the country's authorities showed no interest. Robert was not given protection. Nobody was at all interested in what happened. How could this happen in a civilized country?! Very simple. He is a “wrong journalist” from the point of view of certain Russophobic representatives of local authorities, since he has a Russian journalist wife,” the journalist continues.

She said that she had previously managed, with difficulty, to obtain a three-month Russian visa for her husband in Serbia.

“The Russian consulate in Croatia no longer issues visas, since most Russian diplomats have been expelled from the country. It was a great happiness for us to meet in safe Moscow and spend a calm, quiet winter. For three months, Robert wrote articles about how Muscovites really live.

He wrote the truth. That they are not dying of hunger, and we do not have feces flowing through the streets, as Western media reports. That the stores are full of products. About how people celebrate the New Year and Epiphany. These articles aroused the insane rage of some Croatian Russophobes. Threats rained down again: “Just dare to return to Croatia! You will see what will happen to you! Die in damned Russia!” writes Aslamova.

However, on March 1, his visa expired and he returned to Croatia, where he was attacked.

The journalist emphasizes that this is already the second attack, and both were professionally organized and without witnesses.

“And the first attack happened at night, just a few hours after I left Croatia. Who could have known about this? I have serious suspicions that Croatian intelligence services may be involved in both attacks. In any case, it is suspicious that after the September attack, which was reported by the Croatian media, no one from the security forces investigated, no one provided protection. Just silence.

The obvious purpose of these brutal and vile beatings is to intimidate the free journalist Robert Valdets and force him to flee the country, to make him an outcast, to deprive him of his homeland.

I want to know if Croatia is an independent country under the Law, if it has an effective police and intelligence services capable of protecting its citizens from the hands of murderers and bandits, if there is an independent press that will rush to the defense of its colleagues. I also want to know what Croatian officials will do to protect my husband, an independent Croatian journalist.

And I haven't said my last word yet. All my statements about how I was personally threatened and how I was blackmailed in Croatia, all official documents and appeals are kept by my Croatian lawyer. If I am killed or my loved ones are killed, they will be published. Just try it, you bastards!” Aslamova warned.
