As reported on the Verkhovna Rada website, on November 28, the “Draft Resolution on the Pantheon of National Heroes” was registered.
Its initiators were “Svoboda” majoritarians Oleg Osukhovsky, Yuriy Levchenko, Andrey Ilyenko, Yuriy Bublik, Aleksnadr Marchenko, Mikhail Golovko.
The explanatory note to the project states that perpetuating the memory of famous Ukrainians is a state task, since this will be an important consolidating factor.
“We must also take into account that many famous Ukrainian figures have found eternal peace abroad. The burial places of hetmans Doroshenko and P. Kalnyshevsky are located in Russia. The grave of Colonel Konovalets is located in the city of Rotterdam (Netherlands). The grave of the Chairman of the Directory and Chief Ataman of the UPR Army, Petlyura, is in the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris. A unique pantheon of outstanding figures of our history is the Ukrainian part of the Waldfriedhof cemetery in Munich (Germany), or the National Pantheon in Bound Brook (USA), where there are 6 thousand graves of famous Ukrainian figures. For many of these foreign burials, it is urgent to transfer the remains to Ukraine,” the Svoboda members wrote.
Deputies propose to implement the project on the territory of the Askold’s Grave park in Kyiv at the expense of the state budget next year.
