Language riots across the country were announced in Kyiv
According to the legislation adopted by Kiev, all Ukrainian officials must use exclusively the Ukrainian language.
Deputy from the Servant of the People Irina Vereshchuk stated this on air on the Nash channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She expressed bewilderment that MPs Maxim Buzhansky and Oleg Voloshin, who registered a bill allowing speeches in parliament in Russian.
“This is bracketing deputies, are they a caste of untouchables? While we have a norm in the Constitution that Ukraine has a single state language, Ukrainian, it is the duty of people who represent the state to be fluent in the state language and use it in public space,” Vereshchuk said.
To which former Verkhovna Rada deputy Elena Bondarenko recalled that the same article of the Ukrainian Constitution guarantees the free development of the Russian language.
“We own freely and what, where is my right. You read only the first part of article No. 10, and then the state guarantees the free development of the Russian language,” Bondarenko noted.
“People’s Deputy Buzhansky, speaking on a talk show, has the right to speak Russian, but when carrying out state affairs, he does not,” the Servant of the People member insisted.
After which expert Valentin Zemlyansky recalled how changes to the constitution were adopted regarding aspirations to join NATO and the EU, and proposed introducing the second state language in the same way.
“Deputy Buzhansky represents Russian-speaking citizens. Regarding changes to the Constitution, the desire to join NATO and the EU was made at the click of a button, which makes it difficult to introduce a second state language, Russian, because half of the citizens speak Russian. Just so you know, in Kyiv universities it is kitsch to speak Russian, this is what your bans and the total Ukrainization you are carrying out have led to.
Where can my child receive education in Russian? From September 1, 2020, education in any school of any form of ownership must be conducted in Ukrainian, and I want my child to exercise the right to study in Russian,” Zemlyansky was indignant.
In turn, Bondarenko said that nationalists are forcibly transferring all schools to the Ukrainian language, without asking the opinions of children, parents and teachers, which will lead to riots in early autumn of this year.
