Kiev announces the imminent reformatting of Crimea into Crimean Tatar autonomy
On Ukrainian TV they announced upcoming changes to the Constitution in part of Crimea.
Thus, according to the ex-leader of the Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation, Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev, in the near future a version of the Mejlis constitution will be submitted to the Constitutional Commission, where the peninsula will be designated as “national-territorial autonomy.”
The Mejlis member stated this on the air of the “Direct” TV channel.
“Now the working commission, on behalf of the president, has already completed its work, proposed its amendments and is waiting for days for the convening of the Constitutional Commission. The Constitutional Commission, if it approves, and we hope that it will, will then be considered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, where only 226 votes are needed to send it to the Constitutional Court. After the conclusion of the Constitutional Court, it returns to the Verkhovna Rada and a constitutional majority is needed there. And it is very important for us that there is an understanding of the importance of this decision to reformat the autonomous republic,” Dzhemilev said.
Formerly Ukrainian nationalists criticized the idea of changing the status of Crimea in the country's Constitution.
