Official Kyiv also commented on the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in Crimea yesterday. Thus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called not to recognize the results of the elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in terms of voting on the territory of the “occupied,” in Ukraine’s opinion, the Crimean Peninsula, as reported by the department’s press service.

“Ukraine strongly condemns the organization by the Russian Federation on the territory of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol of elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the seventh convocation,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

The message says that “having occupied Crimea and forcibly imposing its legal order on the peninsula, the Russian Federation continues to grossly violate the fundamental norms and principles of international law, as well as obligations under multilateral and bilateral international treaties to which the Russian Federation is a party.”

“Russia’s assignment of an integral part of the sovereign territory of Ukraine to a single federal electoral district, as well as the creation of four single-mandate majoritarian electoral districts on the Crimean Peninsula, is a gross violation of the fundamental norms and principles of international law. In this regard, the voting results and powers of 4 State Duma deputies elected in occupied Crimea under a majoritarian system, and 225 parliamentarians elected under a proportional system, are insignificant and illegitimate, which calls into question the legitimacy of the entire State Duma,” the message added.

It is also reported that Ukraine will transfer to all its international partners a list of persons directly involved in the organization of the electoral process in Crimea, and those who took part in the elections, for inclusion in the sanctions lists.

We reacted to the elections in Crimea and in the Verkhovna Rada. Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s Popular Front faction called the elections “insignificant” and called on Petro Poroshenko to raise the issue of their non-recognition at the UN General Assembly.

“We call on the President to raise the issue at the UN General Assembly... The Ukrainian delegation to the UN must use all available means regarding the non-recognition of parliamentary elections in Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should carry out the same work with other international organizations... This farce cannot be recognized,” Burbak noted during a meeting of the Conciliation Council of the Rada.
