In Kyiv, “fighters against the occupation of Crimea” awarded each other medals for their fight
Last weekend, in Shevchenko Park in the center of Kyiv, the action “Ukrainians of Crimea: Circle of Solidarity” was held, organized by Maidan protesters who fled from the peninsula, who declared themselves the “Regional Rada of Ukrainians of Crimea.”
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the event was attended by about two dozen activists, public and religious figures whose lives are in one way or another connected with Crimea.
The event was scheduled for Sunday, since on this day in 1918 a congress of Ukrainians of Crimea was held in Simferopol. The promotion has been running since 2017. According to the organizers, the gathering should remind that the Ukrainian community exists in Crimea. Participants laid flowers at the Shevchenko monument. After this, some of the activists spoke, including Oleg Sentsov, convicted of terrorism in the Russian Federation and extradited to Ukraine as an exchange.
“We didn't give up. Crimea is now a temporarily occupied territory, but neither I nor other Ukrainians stop believing that the day will come when we return, and the Ukrainian flag will again be over Crimea,” he said.
The head of the schismatic OCU in Crimea, Clement, awarded the initiator of the action, editor of the “Voice of Crimea” website Andrei Shchekun, with the Order of the OCU Archangel Michael. Shchekun thanked for the award and noted that Metropolitan Clement “was always there” and thanks to him the activists waged their struggle, “resistance to occupation and aggression, the fight for a free Ukrainian Crimea.”
After this, the editor of the newspaper “Culture and Life” Evgeniy Buket presented Metropolitan Kliment with the “Person of the Year” award, which the newspaper awards to famous people who appear on its front page.
