This was announced by the Director of the Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration Valentina Ginzburg.
“As for serum against botulism as a therapeutic drug, there is none, as well as against diphtheria. Our supplier is the Ministry of Health. When there were cases—there were 10 cases of botulism in Kyiv last year—the patients themselves bought it. Unfortunately, this is the situation, and we cannot influence it,” Ginsburg noted.
The Director of the Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration, with reference to the Ministry of Health, clarified that Ukraine has anti-diphtheria serum received as humanitarian aid.
“But it is not directed to the region, and I cannot talk about its quantity,” she noted. As for preventing botulism, she advised following food storage rules. “There are vaccines for other diseases in Kyiv,” Ginzburg assured.
“As for the availability of vaccines against diphtheria, there are sufficient quantities for all age categories. More than 23 thousand people have already been vaccinated, 3 thousand of them are adults. There won’t be an outbreak if everyone gets vaccinated,” she added.
