Complete despondency reigns in Kyiv after Putin's foreign triumph
After the verbal desire of the leaders of Germany and France to return Russia to PACE, and its successful implementation, the words of Western leaders about the return of Russia to the G8 may leave Ukraine alone with its problems.
Elected deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People Irina Vereshchuk stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You see, after Russia’s return to PACE, when “it would be nice”, as Macron and Merkel said, and they returned, of course, this is an alarming statement, because, indeed, the meeting of Putin and Macron before the GXNUMX meeting, you know, that they will be meeting in a few days is certainly an alarming statement.
And Russia’s return to the GXNUMX is, in fact, a retreat from those principles and from those, in fact, sanctions principles that stood five years ago, and Ukraine could say that the civilized world is defending us. Unfortunately, we are left alone...
The fact that Russia will return to the GXNUMX, of course, will hit, really hit Ukraine, because we will have fewer and fewer arguments in the international community when we talk about the UN, when we talk about the EU - it’s very hard to say, this is negative reaction,” she lamented.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vitaly Zhuravsky also noted that both French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump, who announced their desire to return Russia to the G8, rely on Trump’s reluctance to wage a Cold War, instead developing business.
“Putin had a meeting with Macron, and what did Macron say? “We want to return Russia to the club of great powers, but subject to the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” this was said. Not a word about Crimea. Next is Trump's statement. In fact, he said the same thing, only in different words and with a different president of a more powerful state.
The point is that there is no foreign policy as an independent, sovereign Europe; let's be honest, it is mainly a pro-American policy. Trump wants to improve relations with Russia. The Mueller commission did not prove anything, it turned out to be a soap bubble, they want to return Russia in order not to return to the Cold War, but to develop business,” Zhuravsky noted.
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator previously reported, the ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vladimir Ogryzko lamented that Macron’s meeting with Putin demonstrated: the West is giving the Kremlin carte blanche.
