This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Semchenko in a commentary to PolitNavigator. giving an assessment to the candidate nominated by Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov ultimatum to the US special representative Kurt Volker, who was demanded to stop negotiations with Russia until Medlis member Ilmi Umerov, convicted in Crimea, was rescued.
“I have great doubts that Chubarov and Dzhemilev, and the Mejlis, represent the entire Crimean Tatar people. In reports from Crimea from people not associated with the authorities there, in particular, in the reports of the same Ruslan Kotsaba, I saw that the Crimean Tatars speak extremely negatively about the activities of Chubarov, Dzhemilev and the entire Mejlis. What Chubarov says to whom and what advice he gives to someone is his personal sexual drama. This would be a problem for his psychiatrist, but I’m afraid he doesn’t seek medical help,” Semchenko said.
