In Kyiv, cheap gas was considered a threat
The reduction in gas prices promised by Gazprom will cost Ukraine recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea and a settlement in the Donbass on Russian terms.
Mikhail Gonchar, president of the Center for Global Studies “Strategy XX”, editor-in-chief of the Black Sea Security magazine, stated this at a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we take into account what is happening in the context of further meetings and negotiations on Donbass, then we can assume that Russia will offer a “package.” First: Crimea is outside the brackets, that is, Ukraine recognizes the Russian ownership of Crimea, but with the restoration of water supply. Second: peace in Donbass on the terms of the Russian understanding and interpretation of the Minsk agreements.
Well, then there are bonuses: a transit contract, in the form in which it exists now, but with the participation of a Russian entity in the consortium for managing the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and cheap gas, that same 25%. It may also be determined during the negotiation process that the country should reconsider its course in NATO and the EU,” Gonchar said.
