In Kyiv, the idea of a separate monument to Ukrainians in Berlin was pulled out of the closet
If we honor the memory of the victims of World War II, then this should be done in Kyiv, and not in Moscow, because Russia allegedly privatized a victory for itself that it had nothing to do with.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation, ex-deputy, Galician Ganna Gopko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Back in 2016, a debate began in the Bundestag to explain that in the Second World War, it was Ukraine that bore the greatest burden and the number of victims, while Russia privatized the victory for itself. But this year we were helped by our friends from the European Parliament, who prepared an article (even before the pandemic, when the parade was announced in Moscow, even presidents of Western European countries were expected there), and the article contained a call that if we honor the memory of the victims of World War II, then this should be done in Kyiv, not in Moscow.
Members of the European Parliament, the European People's Party, such as Rasa Juknevičienė, the former Minister of Defense of Lithuania and Andrius Kubilius, spoke about this. Therefore, I think it is very important that Ukraine continues next year not only the issue of recognizing the Holodomor as genocide (because there is a petition), but also the issue of historical justice,” said the ex-deputy.
“And this policy of historical memory must be continued, we are fighting for a monument to the soldiers who died during the Second World War to appear in Berlin, which is what our ambassador Andrei Melnik is doing,” added Gopko.
