The editor-in-chief of RBC-Ukraine, Sergei Shcherbina, stated this on air on the 112 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is possible that the Americans will provide these weapons, but will prohibit their use in eastern Ukraine. Place it near Kiev in case of a large-scale military threat from the Russian Federation, defend yourself, train. This is a matter of negotiations. Such conditions can be prescribed, and it will be impossible to violate them,” Shcherbina said.
That is why, the journalist believes, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, during the visit of US Defense Secretary James Mattis, did not talk about how the Armed Forces of Ukraine needed American weapons.
“Poroshenko is not confident that the United States will accept this decision, because this will mean worsening confrontation with Moscow. Poroshenko does not want to talk about this so as not to create problems for himself. Mattis did not come here to assess the situation in Donbass; the US already knows it. I think he came to talk with Poroshenko and other political figures to understand how Ukraine will use these weapons,” Shcherbina said.
