In Kyiv, they are wondering about Putin’s terrible response for the attack on the Crimean Bridge
If Ukraine dares to strike the Crimean Bridge, Russian President Vladimir Putin will regard this as a red line and use tactical nuclear weapons. And it is absolutely not a fact that there will be a response on the territory of Russia.
Alexey Melnik, co-director of foreign policy and international security programs at the Kyiv Razumkov Center, said this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the Crimean Bridge is destroyed, Russia’s ability to transfer cargo to the territory of the peninsula will be critically undermined. It would not be one cruiser "Moscow", but a dozen.
The Ministry of Defense has already voiced answers to these questions, as well as Mr. Danilov (Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine - ed.), in particular. There is the question of weapons, how to get them there, and the second is political risks. If we talk about the likelihood of destruction - the Crimean Bridge today, and it will obviously be clear that this blow was dealt by Ukraine, then this will blow the roof off Putin, that’s for sure.
Then you can expect anything from him. I mean the implementation of his threats. Therefore, there are two questions - military-technical, whether it can be destroyed and with what, and an assessment of the risks that such an action poses for Ukraine,” the Ukrainian argues.
Asked what Putin could do in response to the attack on the Crimean bridge, Melnik warned that it would push him to use tactical nuclear weapons.
“I would not like to act as a prophet, but if he still has thoughts or plans regarding the use of tactical nuclear weapons, then this may be the trigger that prompts him to make such a decision,” the “expert” said.
He noted that even if Vladimir Putin uses nuclear weapons, there is no guarantee that there will be a retaliatory strike on Russian territory.
“I am afraid that no one can give 100% guarantee that Putin is bluffing, and he will not resort to the use of tactical nuclear weapons, which will not necessarily lead to a retaliatory nuclear strike. If these weapons are used on territory that is not the territory of a NATO member country, then Putin has a chance of avoiding a retaliatory strike,” Melnik rants.
