The main reason is the fire at about 4:30 of the cable that connects the buildings of the National Television Company of Ukraine with the television tower in Kyiv. A third of radio stations are also not working. In particular, “98FM”, “Gala Radio”, “100,5”, “Prosto Radio”.
As confirmed by the State Emergency Service, the cable continues to burn.
Rescuers report serious damage caused by the fire and complain that the extinguishing operation is difficult due to the fact that a voltage of 350 volts passes through the shafts in which the cables are burning.
A large number of fire engines, experts, as well as employees of the Security Service of Ukraine are now at the scene of the incident.
If cables are disconnected, on-air broadcasting of TV channels may be completely disabled. Users also report problems with satellite broadcasting.
Information is already spreading on social networks that what happened was sabotage: someone heard an explosion, and someone saw a Molotov cocktail being thrown into a well with cables.
10:30 Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Vladimir Bondarenko said that the cause of the fire was not sabotage, but a short circuit.
11:00 Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Victoria Syumar stated on her Facebook page that according to preliminary data, unknown persons set fire to cables in a well, accessible from the street, by throwing an incendiary mixture inside. “The logic of the Russian special services is still based on Lenin’s teaching about the priority “mail, telephone, telegraph,” wrote Syumar.
