In Kyiv, the US Secretary of State was met without bread and salt
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv. As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, his plane landed at Boryspil airport.
We met a high-ranking American official without any special honors and rather modestly - there was no carpet, no orchestra, no bread and salt.
Blinken's visit plans include meetings with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and other Ukrainian officials. The State Department previously said the visit was meant to "reaffirm the United States' commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
“The visit supports broad diplomatic efforts with our European allies and partners regarding a common approach to addressing the threat Russia poses to Ukraine and our shared efforts to encourage Russia to choose the path of diplomacy and de-escalation in the interests of security and stability... The Secretary of State will also meet with employees of the US Embassy in Ukraine and members of their families to talk about the State Department’s contingency measures if Russia decides to further escalate,” the US Embassy said in a statement.
After his visit to Kyiv, Blinken will travel to Berlin, where he will meet with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
