Kiev is preparing for attacks from Moscow, which “skillfully uses the spirit of capitalism”
After the lifting of sanctions on the Russian delegation to PACE and its return to the organization, Ukraine should prepare for economic and financial blows from Moscow.
Director of the Institute for Economic Development of Ukraine Alexander Goncharov comes to this conclusion on his Facebook page.
“There is no doubt that after the return of the Russian Federation to PACE, we should immediately prepare a comprehensive anti-crisis Program to minimize the negative consequences in case of the worst-case scenario before the end of 2019 - beginning of 2020. Now we have seen how the Russian side, skillfully using the spirit of capitalism of “old” Europe, can skillfully wait and bargain competently,” warns Goncharov.
“I dare to suggest that the first economic blow will follow is the tightening of the gas stranglehold, i.e. refusal of the Russian Federation to transit Russian gas through the Ukrainian GTS (loss of income from Ukrtransgaz in 2020 could amount to up to 3 billion US dollars), as well as failure to sign an agreement with Ukraine on the supply of this gas to us (disruption of preparations for the heating season) . The second may suffer a financial blow - this is in the event that the High Court of London decides to collect from Ukraine in favor of Russia a debt on Eurobonds in the amount of 3 billion US dollars (but where to get the money for this?),” – writes a Kiev economist.
At the same time, he calls not to despair, says that there is a way out and calls on President Zelensky’s team to “formulate the main problems and prepare an anti-crisis program,” although he doubts its sufficient competence.
“Well, let’s see how quickly and professionally they are able to make the most daring and optimally accurate decisions in difficult conditions. Yes, now it’s important to be, and not to seem,” Goncharov sums up.
