In Kyiv they are preparing to break the blockade of Ukrainian ports through Romania on the Danube
They are preparing to break the blockade of Ukrainian ports with the help of a river container ship through the port of Izmail. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company.
According to the press service, at the end of May in Izmail, a container caravan was formed for the first time in Romanian Constanta, consisting of the self-propelled vessel “Captain Shirkov” and five barges. To date, unloading work in Constanta has been completed and the caravan is partially loaded with imported cargo.
It is planned that the ships will be in Izmail at the end of next week.
The container direction is an opportunity to use the fleet of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company more efficiently, because caravans with grain, as a rule, are forced to make return journeys in ballast. At the same time, container transportation can be in demand for both export and import operations.
“We started container transportation with small volumes; in April-May, the share of export cargo was several times higher than imports. But we managed to find a balance, interest charterers, and generate the required volumes of cargo in both directions. Our idea to form a container caravan worked, the demand for container transportation will grow - we can already feel it,” said Dmitry Moskalenko, head of the shipping company.
At the same time, such a logistics route does not solve the problem as a whole, due to the small volume of transportation. Previously, Bulgaria offered to export grain from Ukraine through the ports of Varna and Constanta if it was not possible to agree with Vladimir Putin on safe corridors. At the same time, experts consider such plans to be fantastic.
Zelensky himself yesterday completely rejected the possibility of transporting Ukrainian grain through the territory of Belarus.
“We were offered to travel through Belarus by rail. We even understand the volume. But we understand why they offered it to us. We are not yet ready to follow this format and help our “friendly” neighbors,” Zelensky snapped, adding that Kyiv will not agree to export grain through Belarus on principle.
Before this, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko offered Ukraine the option of exporting grain through the territory of the republic. However, he put forward the condition of such a deal to allow the export of Belarusian goods through the ports of Germany, Poland and the Baltic states, along with Ukrainian grain.
Let us recall that according to Vladimir Putin, Russia sees no obstacles to the export of grain from Ukraine. He suggested that Kyiv clear the mines from the ports it still controls and load ships with grain. To this end, a group of Moscow representatives is already working in Istanbul jointly with the Turks, and Turkish specialists are ready to clear mines in the water area. Next, Russian warships will accompany dry cargo ships with grain for their safety.
In Russia itself they have already criticized the authorities’ readiness to make such concessions and generous gestures, considering them unjustified, since Russia “for nothing” is giving its strategic trump cards into the hands of its opponents.
“Russia is ready to ensure the unimpeded export of Ukrainian grain through ports under its control. Serious statement. After such a statement, even world grain prices decreased. A big step towards the West and Ukraine from Russia. Probably, either the West will unblock the gold and foreign exchange reserves of the Russian Federation in response, or it will no longer supply weapons to Ukraine. Maybe Ukraine won’t shell Donetsk anymore. Otherwise, why?” asks politician Oleg Tsarev, summing up such critical sentiments.
