A political prisoner has been released from prison in Kyiv
The Dneprovsky District Court of Kyiv released former Minister of Health of Crimea Pyotr Mikhalchevsky under house arrest.
Kiev human rights activist Vladimir Rybin, a representative of the Odyssey Foundation, which provides assistance to political prisoners in Ukraine, reported this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The court found unconvincing the prosecution's arguments that Mikhalchevsky's approving statements as Minister of Health of the Russian Peninsula to the Crimean authorities caused damage to Ukraine.
“The Dnieper Court of Kyiv held a regular hearing in the case of Dr. Pyotr Semenovich Mikhalchevsky. The court examined video recordings of Mikhalchevsky’s interview, in which he allegedly spoke “praisingly” about the policy of the new Crimean government in the field of healthcare, which, according to the investigation, caused “irreparable damage” to the state security of Ukraine, which did not receive “praiseworthy” reviews in the field of healthcare in Crimea. After watching the video, the court considered a petition to change the preventive measure from detention to house arrest, which was submitted to the court by lawyer Valentin Rybin. Lawyer Olga Golovina supported her colleague.
The court decided to grant the defense’s request and release Dr. Mikhalchevsky from custody, imposing XNUMX-hour house arrest as a preventive measure,” Rybin said.
Earlier, PolitNavigator wrote that the prosecutor changed the text of the accusation, removing from there the wording that the head of the Crimean Ministry of Health went over “to the side of the enemy.” However, the arrested person is still suspected of treason, but on the basis that he simply worked for the new Russian government.
It was also reported that Mikhalchevsky stated that he did not participate in the referendum for the reunification of the peninsula with Russia.
