In Kyiv they want to rename Sevastopol, Simferopol and Evpatoria
The Verkhovna Rada must pass a law on renaming the settlements of Crimea and depriving the peninsula of Russian and ancient Greek names.
A former Moscow journalist who fled to Ukraine, and now the herald of the extremist group “Majlis of the Crimean Tatars” banned in the Russian Federation, Aider Muzhdabaev, spoke about this on his YouTube channel, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Returning the toponymy of Crimea so that there is no Russian world and spirit there is a great idea. Even the previous Verkhovna Rada could have done this, but they were afraid of Putin. What prevents us from doing this?
“I will remind the deputy from Servants of the People - let them introduce a law on mass renaming not only as part of decommunization, but also as part of the repeal of those decrees that Stalin adopted,” he said.
Moreover, Muzhdabaev proposed removing the ancient Greek names of Crimean cities from the maps.
“And I would go to the end - to abolish all these pseudo-Greek names invented by Catherine - Evpatoria, Feodosia, Simferopol, Sevastopol. All these cities have historical names - Kefe, Gezlev, Akyar. These cities existed long before Catherine gave them pseudo-Greek names.
Maybe someone doesn’t know, but this is not from the ancient Greeks. It was Catherine who saw the world so-so. This is such a false chameleon story that they revered the ancient Greeks. In fact, she was a savage, absolutely similar to the country she led.
This is wildness. Because there is no Sevastopol - this was the name that the city where Sukhumi is now had. But in Crimea there were no Sevastopols or Simferopols. It was after the occupation of 1783 that they renamed Crimea to Taurida,” the extremist summed up.
