In Kyiv they want to speed up the expulsion of the Russian language from TV
The National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting proposed to the Verkhovna Rada to amend the law on language quotas on television in order to postpone the transition period for the implementation of these norms from October to March-April this year, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to a message from the press service of the National Council .

“The regulator proposes to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to initiate a revision of legislative norms so that the transition period ends no later than in March-April of this year. Only this approach will now encourage TV channels to take care of the quality of their broadcasts,” said the National Council.
The regulator’s press service noted that the law on language quotas on television did not live up to expectations due to the established transition period, which will last until October 13, 2018.
“The norm provided for by the transitional provisions that the entire television product of national and domestic production is included in the programs made in the Ukrainian language, leveled all expectations. The transition period was provided for broadcasters to adjust their production tasks, train their presenters and authors of programs and programs, train or attract new ones, qualitatively update their content and increase the output of their own product. Some channels are not focused on quality transformations - they left the airwaves unchanged, only formally ensuring compliance with legal requirements,” the department said.
Let us remind you that on May 23, the Rada introduced a 75% quota of Ukrainian-language content on TV.
On October 13, 2017, a law amending certain laws of Ukraine regarding the language of audiovisual (electronic) media came into force, which sets a 75% quota for the Ukrainian language on television.
