The mass issuance of Russian passports to residents of the LDPR will allow Russia to pass off its military personnel in the Donbass as local residents.
Political scientist Oleg Sahakyan stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This can be used to disguise military presence. When Russian soldiers fall into the hands of the Ukrainian military in eastern Ukraine, they are retroactively registered as “vacationers,” volunteers, etc. That is, they are no longer career military personnel, but Russian citizenship cannot be lost.
In this case, you can always say that they were locals who received Russian passports, so they lived there, etc. It is clear that no one in Ukraine will believe this, but, nevertheless, in order to create muddy waters and disguise the military presence, they say that several tens of thousands of people with Russian passports are not regular Russian military personnel, but supposedly local ones who received Russian passports,” Sahakyan shared his fears.
