In Kyiv they dream of walking under NATO escort
Ukraine is considering the option of sending UN or NATO forces to escort Ukrainian ships in the Sea of Azov.
Deputy Minister for “Occupied Territories” Georgiy Tuka stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, the official admitted that Azov is neutral waters, and therefore one can hardly expect help from NATO here.
“Theoretically, two possible versions can be considered. The first is an appeal to the UN Security Council with a request for a UN sea convoy. And the second version is less likely, from my point of view, is the use of NATO forces for escort in the Sea of Azov. But this is the least likely thing imaginable. Firstly, this is an inland body of water, there is no such thing as neutral waters at all. Therefore, I would not predict that NATO armed forces will help us in this,” Tuka said.
Earlier, Maidan of Foreign Affairs expert Andrei Klimenko, who monitors maritime activity, said that NATO is the only hope that the Russian amphibious assault will not land in Odessa and Mariupol.
