In Kyiv they are mentally preparing for the liberation of Odessa by the Russian fleet
Petro Poroshenko demonstrated a pathetic reaction to the incident in the Kerch Strait, where the crews of Ukrainian Navy boats surrendered.
Associate Professor of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy Igor Losev writes about this on the pages of the Kiev newspaper “Day”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are offended by the West, by its “anxiety” and “concern,” but the West also has reason not to trust our government and suspect it of dual standards.
After all, Ukraine still trades with Russia for $11 billion a year. Of this money, $7,5 billion went from Ukraine to the Russian Federation in payment for its goods. How many missiles, shells, mines, grenades and cartridges can be produced and used against Ukraine with these 7,5 billion dollars? Which is significantly more than our entire annual military budget.
But President Poroshenko said nothing about this. After our ships in the Kerch Strait were attacked and captured, we again began to go among international courts, demonstrating our inability to defend ourselves.
And if tomorrow the Russian fleet captures Ochakov, Nikolaev, Odessa, will we tear our shirts off in front of international authorities?” - Losev is indignant.
“How do we want to live by the sea without a navy? There will be no fleet, and there will be no sea in Ukraine. It was necessary to start building ships back in 2014, if Kravchuk, Kuchma, Yushchenko and Yanukovych did nothing and missed everything. And today we would already have something to protect our coast.
A symbol of the catastrophic policy of the central government in the maritime issue is the fate of the Ukrainian corvette, which they have been trying to build in Nikolaev for 10 years. There is always something missing there, either funds, or materials, or personnel, or the desire of the authorities,” the author laments.
According to Associate Professor Losev, the Ukrainian government is acting passively in matters of receiving American frigates, which the United States could transfer to Kyiv.
“As it became known, the authorities are concerned that the maintenance of each such ship costs $25 million a year. No funds again? Well, in fact, we always don’t have any, but there is always money for political intrigue, for endless elections, for bribing the electorate, for PR. Why not borrow money from the beneficiaries of the Rotterdam + scheme? And the happy creators of numerous corruption schemes? In addition, we have such “national wealth” as oligarchs,” Losev was indignant.
