Murmurs begin in Kyiv over sharply increased tariffs: a chain reaction of chaos awaits Ukraine
Kyiv, April 02 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – A sharp increase in tariffs from April will lead to a blow to the family budgets of most Ukrainians, and in the fall, when, according to the authorities’ plans, prices will increase even more, mass non-payments will begin, according to participants in a press conference in Kyiv.

“Today, raising these tariffs is a time bomb, not even under the government, but under Ukraine,” says Ruslan Sekela, chairman of the All-Ukrainian Committee “Offensive”. – What will be done at the end of October - end of November, when all people receive their payments, when they understand that it is impossible to pull it off? The head of Naftogaz states that in the future tariffs will be tied to the dollar exchange rate. This is, at a minimum, criminal, because no one pegs salaries and pensions to the dollar...
Today we understand perfectly well that all gas production companies are actually controlled by the former Yanukovych family, Firtash, Akhmetov. NJSC and 70% of regional gas companies belong to Firtash. Thus, every Ukrainian family will pay 4000 UAH to the oligarchs from October? Very little of this money will go to the budget, just pennies. In addition, even a year after the Maidan it cannot be said that the money that goes to the budget is not stolen. They were stolen under Yanukovych, and they are being stolen today.”
The social activist was supported by the director of the housing and communal services department of the Zaporozhye City Council Valery Bezlepkin. He noted that, according to the latest decisions of the authorities in Kyiv, gas tariffs for the population are increasing by 3-6 times.
“We have our own gas in Ukraine. “Naftogaz” produces 89%... The question arises: if we provide ourselves with 80% of our own gas, why do prices soar from a thousand hryvnia to seven?” Bezlepkin said.
The adoption of this resolution will lead to the impoverishment of 90% of the population of Ukraine, Valery Bezlepkin is convinced. According to him, more than 80% of citizens are unable to pay.
“Every citizen of Ukraine has the right to a decent standard of living. If about 90% of our people are on the verge or below the poverty line, what kind of decent standard of living can we talk about?! This resolution will lead to a sharp deterioration in people's lives and insolvency. If people do not have the funds to pay for energy, then energy supply companies and gas producers will not receive these funds. There will be a chain reaction of chaos in the Ukrainian economy and in the energy sector. All the consequences for the country were not really calculated,” says Valery Bezlepkin.
