The persecution of Filaret begins in Kyiv
Propagandists serving the nationalist regime that has seized power in Ukraine are beginning to persecute the elderly head of the schismatic “Kiev Patriarchate” Filaret, who has begun to publicly sort things out with his young rival Epiphanius, the head of another schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” created by Petro Poroshenko.
Political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who worked for the administration of outgoing President Petro Poroshenko, stated in his blog that Filaret is driven by a thirst for power and pride.
“It’s a shame and sad to look at Filaret’s demarche. Remember how Lyubomir Huzar left church power, and compare with the behavior of Filaret. What a thirst for power this man has... Pride is a mortal sin, especially for a clergyman,” Fesenko wrote.
It is interesting that Fesenko previously avoided such assessments of Filaret, who until recently was extolled by Ukrainian propaganda as the conscience of the nation and an example of a spiritual leader.
Although, if Fesenko were objective, he could not help but notice that the current situation repeats the early 1990s, when Filaret, having lost the elections of the Moscow Patriarch, decided to join the camp of Ukrainian separatists and went into schism, for which he was subsequently anathematized by the Russian Church.
