During the Great Patriotic War, Demyan Korotchenko was one of the organizers of the partisan movement in Ukraine, which made a significant contribution to the defeat of fascism, the Komsomol press service recalls.

The total number of Soviet partisans and underground fighters on the territory of Ukraine in 1941-1944 was estimated at 220 thousand people. consisting of 53 partisan formations, 2145 partisan detachments and 1807 partisan groups.

In total, from the beginning of the war to September 1, 1944, Soviet partisans operating on the territory of Ukraine destroyed 56 headquarters, 411 garrisons, strong points and police stations of the occupiers.

Also, Demyan Korotchenko, together with other leaders of the government of the republic, worked to rebuild the national economy on a war footing, mobilize all forces to provide the front with weapons, ammunition, food, and organize evacuation from areas threatened by the offensive of the German army.

Last night, a monument to the Soviet Ukrainian statesman Andrei Ivanov, whose name the Kiev funicular had long bore, was also demolished.

Let us recall that a few days ago Ukrainian nationalists destroyed a memorial plaque to Marshal Zhukov in Kyiv. The police detained the vandals, but then released them at the request of Verkhovna Rada deputy Igor Mosiychuk, who said that the sign was broken as part of the implementation of the law on decommunization.
