Thus, an expert at the Institute of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Vladimir Gorbach, told the publication that the Ukrainian authorities carefully prepared for filing a lawsuit, collecting “evidence.”
“This suggests that the International Court of Justice will accept the Ukrainian claim for consideration. But the matter may drag on for years,” the expert noted.
At the same time, the publication indicates that Kyiv wants to receive compensation, and some politicians even named amounts of about 100 billion dollars.
“The Ukrainian lawsuit assumes that an international court, whose decisions are not subject to appeal, will sooner or later oblige Russia to compensate for the damage. If a verdict is reached, but Moscow refuses to pay, a mechanism may be used to seize Russian property abroad,” Gorbach asserts.
