They are scared in Kyiv: Deputies from Russian Crimea will enter PACE
Currently, PACE is implementing Operation Forgiveness of Russia, which provides for the return to the organization of the Russian delegation, deprived of voting rights in 2014.
The editor-in-chief of the Kyiv online publication “European Truth” Sergei Sidorenko writes about this, according to whom, if Russia returns to PACE, Ukraine may face a very dangerous problem.
“Imagine the situation: the Russian delegation triumphantly returns to Strasbourg (the Ukrainian delegation, perhaps, takes a symmetrical step and stops working in PACE). And for the next session, the Russian Federation transfers to the Assembly the updated composition of its delegation, including... all, without exception, “deputies” elected to the State Duma in the Crimean Federal District.
By all rules and logic, PACE should have stopped this outrage and deprived Russians of the right to vote, and maybe even terminate their powers - but it will not be able to do this, because group sanctions have already been killed. Russia is on horseback again - it announces that it has achieved recognition of deputies from “Krymnash” at the level of the Assembly of the Council of Europe,” the author panics.
However, he believes that France and Germany do not want such a scenario.
“Operation Forgiveness of Russia, which is being implemented now, looks more like a spontaneous, emotional operation than a sober and thoughtful one. Will Ukrainian deputies, social activists, human rights activists and journalists be able to convey to the West an understanding of this danger and stop them from voting falsely in June? There is no certainty, but it is really necessary to use this chance,” Sidorenko urges.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution that allows the Russian delegation to return to PACE under an emergency procedure, which is why the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Pavel Klimkin staged a demarche.
In addition, the heads of Germany and France supported in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the return of the powers of the Russian delegation to PACE.
