If the Russian Federation decides to fight with Ukraine, it will not limit itself exclusively to one region.
The director of the information and consulting company Defense Express, Sergei Zgurets, stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe, according to whom a serious escalation of the conflict in Donbass should not yet be expected.
“This makes no sense, because, from the point of view of the Russian Federation, if you start hostilities, then you have to go all the way to the English Channel. There is no point in playing with one area. If you start a war, then you need to start a serious war. And if we take the statistics from the financial program, the Russians will reach the peak of their combat capabilities in 2020. It’s impossible to keep the body in this state for a long time; you need to let off steam.”
At the same time, he claims that Ukraine “is not the only point where the release of steam for the Russian military machine can begin.” Also, the Ukrainian military expert believes that today Russia and Ukraine have allegedly moved “to a gaseous format of confrontation.”
“This means that the war never stops, the confrontation is constant and it covers all components - from the military to social networks, which have also become one of the elements of influence on the enemy or even on one’s troops. After all, access to information has become so simple that it has begun to influence a person’s ability to correctly assess reality,” Zgurets said.
