During his year of work, the State Department's Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, was able to break the “Russian narrative”, in which the Russian Federation was seen as a mediator in resolving the internal conflict in Donbass.
Deputy Director of the Institute of World Politics Nikolai Beleskov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Kurt Volker, with his public rhetoric, rejected everything that the Russian Federation says. He said from the very beginning that the cause of the conflict was the Russian invasion. Things began to be called by their proper names. His rhetoric helped show that Ukraine is doing the right things,” Beleskov said.
He also believes that thanks to Volker, “the problem of Crimea was not pushed back.
“We have a conflict in Donbass, the Minsk process, which has largely pushed the Crimean issue into the background. In addition, during the year of his work, a holistic American position was formed, that is, an idea with peacekeepers, which was not only formed, but also began to be discussed,” concluded Beleskov.
Let us recall that in his last interview with Ukrainian media, Kurt Volker admitted that his Russian negotiating partner Vladislav Surkov has simply been ignoring him in recent months.
