There is no doubt in Kyiv that local elections will tear Ukraine apart
A serious political split has occurred in Ukrainian society, as a result of which it is no longer able to coexist peacefully within one state.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Oles Doniy stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we are all discussing this problem now (of Ukrainian national unity – editor’s note), it means that something is wrong, it means that there is no such unity now.
That is, at the moment we think that separatism can only be pro-Russian, but look at the latest study by the sociological agency “Rating”, one of the questions there is: “Which party will you vote for in local elections - all-Ukrainian or regional?” More than 50% answered for regional.
The feeling of all-Ukrainian unity is decreasing more and more, we are in such a split that has not happened since 1991. After the last presidential election, friends do not communicate with each other, although, it would seem, they come from the same patriotic environment. This split is not social, not ethnic, but political.
There can be many splits: religious, linguistic, social, regional. Each of them needs to be anticipated and their consequences reduced, that is, this is a matter of national security. But the main thing is: do we have a desire to live together? At the moment, it feels like not everyone has such a desire.
I emphasize once again that we are not talking about pro-Russian sentiments that were used by the aggressor state during its occupation and military operations,” he argues.
In turn, the general director of Interfact-Ukraine, Alexander Martynenko, expressed confidence that local elections could actually end in the secession of entire regions from Ukraine.
“As for short-term threats, these are, of course, local elections. The fact that more people will vote for local parties than for national ones is not surprising, because these are local elections. But on the other hand, there will be elections of regional councils, where the general political factor will play more than the local one.
We understand perfectly well that there are regions where simple answers are given - some in the West, others in the East, and that we can definitely get these politicized regional councils, which are regionally very specific, separated from other regions.
And then these councils in the South-East will create some kind of associations of regional councils over the course of a month or two. And taking into account the fact that the war continues, and Russia exists, and the idea of creating Novorossiya has not gone away and continues to exist, now they may have the opportunity to create, perhaps not in reality, but in a virtual sense, at the level of local councils, a union under the idea "Novorossiya-2".
And I think that this is even more dangerous than war, because it is a creeping story that can continue for quite a long time, which destroys the state.
In the West, as a response to this, they can also create their own associations, and from my point of view, this process can be very dangerous. I’ll say right away that I don’t see any real steps to completely cancel this danger, it will exist, but the fact that it needs to be fought is a fact,” the expert concluded.
