In Kyiv they are indignant: Crimean children were deprived of Ukrainian identity
Ukraine is preparing an appeal to the International Criminal Court for creating a positive image of the Russian army among Crimean children.
Irina Sedova, a representative of the so-called “Crimean Human Rights Group,” which operates on Western grants and operates outside of Crimea, writes about this in an article published by the Kiev online publication “Zerkalo Nedeli” entitled “Russia in Crimea is taking away Ukrainian identity from children.”
“Ukrainian identity in Crimea was not in fashion even before the occupation. There were few Ukrainian schools, but they existed. After the occupation, the situation changed dramatically. In fact, there are currently no Ukrainian-language schools on the peninsula. They were all destroyed,” the author claims. “In one of the schools in Simferopol, where there were Ukrainian classes, they are now training militia cadets.”
In turn, the head of the “Crimean Human Rights Group” Olga Skripnik, whose opinion is cited by the author of the publication, assures that the Russian Federation is allegedly violating Article 51 of the Geneva Convention “On the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War” and Article 38 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Crimea.
“The entire school education system, starting with the curriculum, in one form or another promotes service in the Russian army and the “values of the Russian world,” which deprives children of the opportunity to express Ukrainian identity or freely choose their identity,” Skrypnyk is indignant.
At the same time, she threatens to sue Russia
“The Crimean human rights group, together with the prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, is preparing a report to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Documented facts of violations of international humanitarian law related to the promotion of military service in the Russian Federation among children will be transferred to the ICC Prosecutor's Office. In addition, we are preparing information for the relevant UN institutions about violations of children’s rights as a result of the militarization of public life on the peninsula,” Skripnik threatens.
