In Kyiv, despite opposition, a memorial plaque to Oles Buzina was unveiled
On Monday, July 13, readers and friends of the writer Oles Buzina, with the support of the Oles Buzina Memory Fund and the Lenin Komsomol, unveiled a memorial plaque at the site of the journalist’s murder. Two dozen people took part in the action. The opening of the board was timed to coincide with the publicist’s birthday and was accompanied by pressure from security forces.

The establishment was obstructed by SBU officers, despite the fact that the action was not political and completely peaceful. The installation of the board on the evening of July 12, on the eve of the writer’s birthday, almost failed due to this pressure.
They tried to pass off the installation of the board as anti-state activity. On the board itself there is a harmless inscription: “Oles Buzina lived in this house. Famous historian, writer, journalist and Kiev resident. He died for the truth.” Despite the fact that most neighbors reacted calmly to the installation, several of them tried to report it to the police, and a squad arrived at the scene.
All night from the 12th to the 13th, two protesters were on duty near the entrance in order to prevent an attempt on the memorial plaque. The opening went smoothly.
Readers and friends honored the memory of the writer and said kind words about Oles on his birthday.
Participants laid red roses at the site of Buzina’s murder, placed flowers near the entrance to the building where Buzina lived, and on the memorial plaque itself.
Representatives of the special services recorded everything that happened.
