In Kyiv they explained why Russia will not be able to “absorb” Belarus
Russia and Belarus will not be able to become a single state in the near future, since the Belarusian president will not give up his post.
International affairs expert of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Igor Tyshkevich stated this on the air of the Direct TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia will not absorb Belarus anytime soon. Because, first, unlike Yanukovych, in Lukashenko’s pyramid of values power comes first, and only after that comes recognition and money. Of course, the options “prime minister” or “governor” are not suitable for him. The option of a house near Moscow is even more so.
The second is the number of enemies, including in the Russian, European and Belarusian elites. This is not just a question of political power, but a question of survival,” he noted.
Also, according to Tyshkevich, the anti-Russian opposition is allegedly rapidly gaining strength in Belarus.
“The third is the position of the significant position of the Belarusian elites. Still, in Ukraine they often don’t pay attention to this, but in Belarus there is a generational change. And the position of a significant part of the new Belarusian elite is most likely not pro-Russian. I will quote the words of an employee of the presidential administration. In 2010, he was the Minister of Trade of Belarus (Valentin Chekanov - прим. ред.) in an interview with the Ukrainian magazine “Correspondent”: “Being involved with one partner is stupid and not profitable,” the expert added.
