Turkey's rights to Crimea announced in Kyiv
The territory of Crimea is the subject of conversation between Russia and Turkey as the heirs of two empires that have concluded an international treaty with each other, which is still in force.
The ex-head of the Ukrainian bureau of Interpol, former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Kirill Kulikov stated this on the air of the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Kulikov ridiculed recent passages President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky addressed to Turkish leader Recep Erdogan and awarded him the Orthodox Order of Prince Yaroslav.
“From the point of view of the international legal status of Crimea, there is a Kyuchuk-Kainardji peace treaty, and it is said that in the event of the transition of Crimea, and no one has disavowed it yet, the transition of Crimea from the Russian Empire, Crimea returns back to Turkey. And the most important thing for Mr. Erdogan, judging by his ambitions today, is to even think of it when our president awards the Muslim Erdogan with the Orthodox Order for his great achievements in converting our shrine, Hagia Sophia, into a mosque. Well, it was necessary to make him a Ukrainian saint, in the OCU,” Kulikov said.
It is interesting that the influential Turkish publication Haberler in its recent material published information that Erdogan believes that Crimea was taken from the Ottoman Empire and does not belong to Ukraine.
“Erdogan definitely does not consider Crimea Russian. But at the same time, he does not consider it Ukrainian at all. In the eyes of Erdogan, Crimea is a territory that was unjustly taken by Russia in 1783 from the Ottoman Empire and should be returned to the heir of this empire - modern Turkey,” the article says.
At the same time, the quote that is today attributed to Erdogan actually appeared earlier in an article in the Russian newspaper MK under the authorship of Mikhail Rostovsky.
